• In-depth knowledge of learning disabilities and autism
• Relevant training experience
• Completion of the Oliver McGowan Tier 1 e-learning within the last 6 months.
• This is a pass/fail course; successful completion requires active participation and demonstration of competence.
• Upon successful completion, participants will receive a Health Education England Oliver McGowan trainer PIN.

Day 1 – Understanding Tier 2 Content
Participants will complete the Tier 2 Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training content to build foundational knowledge.

• AM: Learning Disability session
• PM: Autism session

Day 2 – Delivering Tier 2 Training

• Reviewing and discussing the Learning Disability and Autism sessions
• Practising co-facilitation techniques
• Handling questions and interactive activities

All Oliver McGowan training is co-delivered with experts with lived experience of a learning disability or autism, who have been approved by NHS England. A list of approved trainers is on the Oliver McGowan webpages.

You therefore must have plans in place to hire or train your potential experts with lived experience of a learning disability or autism. You cannot use colleagues / friends / family who have been diagnosed with autism or a learning disability; they must attend the official Oliver McGowan “train the trainer” which usually lasts 3 shorter days or 2 full days (12 hours in total).
