A training course involving this level of safeguarding simply cannot be conveyed on an e-learning course. The essential, but sometimes distressing imagery is so important to recognising safeguarding issues and cannot be published to a publicly accessible E-Learning platform.
Face to face training is delivered by a safeguarding expert with real life case studies that cannot be shared or published onto e-learning. Only face to face training can be completely up to date and only in a classroom course can real case discussions take place.
Delegates are able to ask questions, challenge and gain a better understanding of the subject. It is also acknowledged that when there is interaction between the trainer and delegate, the learning is better retained.
By the end of this course you will be able to: -
- Describe the role and main responsibilities of the designated safeguarding lead (DSL)
- State your own values regarding child abuse and the impact of these on professional practice
- Describe the key legislation and guidance that determines your organisation’s policy for child safety and welfare
- Decide what steps your organisation needs to take to look after the safety and welfare of the children and young people within your care
- Identify the barriers that prevent children and staff from reporting abuse or concerns and how to overcome these
- Respond effectively to a child who has reported abuse and know what steps to take when concerns about a child have been raised by others
- Know what is likely to happen following a referral to children's social care and what role the school or college has in the multi-agency child protection process, including case conferences
- Explain the importance of documentation, communication and sharing information, including confidentiality
- What is child abuse
- Signs and symptoms of child abuse and also being aware of other areas such as Gang Violence, Domestic Abuse and Drug and Alcohol
- Normal child development and creating a safe environment
- What to do in response to concerns about a child
- Documentation, reporting strategies and sharing of information
