Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) states that all staff within education facilities should receive safeguarding and child protection training at induction and have annual updates to ensure staff are equipped with the relevant skills and knowledge to safeguard children effectively.

This Designated Safeguarding Lead Course is aimed at anyone in the Education sector or Supervisory role who is required to manage child safety practices within their organisation, or for those looking to refresh their knowledge within their existing role.

As a Designated Safeguarding Lead: -

• You will have the knowledge and skills to recognise various types of abuse and neglect, and how to respond to disclosures and the referral process.
• You will be empowered to be the first point of contact for staff members, families and vulnerable children within your organisation relating to child safety issues

This course is delivered by an expert NSPCC Accredited trainer with more than 25 years of experience in safeguarding children AND meets CQC, Ofsted, Charity Commission, and best practice guidelines.

Objectives

• Describe the role and main responsibilities of the designated safeguarding lead (DSL)
• State your own values regarding child abuse and the impact of these on professional practice
• Describe the key legislation and guidance that determines your organisation’s policy for child safety and welfare
• Decide what steps your organisation needs to take to look after the safety and welfare of the children and young people within your care
• Identify the barriers that prevent children and staff from reporting abuse or concerns and how to overcome these
• Respond effectively to a child who has reported abuse and know what steps to take when concerns about a child have been raised by others
• Know what is likely to happen following a referral to children's social care and what role the school or college has in the multi-agency child protection process, including case conferences
• Explain the importance of documentation, communication and sharing information, including confidentiality
